Showing off, Baroque-style

The Baroque period was one of fascinating originality and experimentation: where new musical forms opened exciting possibilities for both composer and audience.

Innovations included the solo concerto and the concerto grosso (which features a small group of soloists).  These forms exploded in popularity in the 1700s and gave us some of the most admired works of classical music including Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos.

Now we have selected a program of virtuosic Baroque works, written by both well-known and lesser-known composers to explore these popular forms. From Vivaldi to Geminiani, these composers capture fresh the excitement of accomplished soloists with ensemble.
