Music so good it was sent into space
There is a magic to Beethoven: his works transcend time, borders, and language… reflecting a common humanity. Perhaps this is why the Cavatina, from his String Quartet No. 13, was selected to appear on the Voyager spacecraft’s Golden Record, sent deep into space as a representation of all humankind.
Now, you can hear this complete work like never before – reorchestrated to add the full richness of Mercury’s string section – a profoundly moving work that’s equal in emotional intensity to his Ninth Symphony. This work is paired with Ravel’s beloved String Quartet – often considered his first masterpiece.
This concert is made possible in part by the Houston Endowment, the Brown Foundation, the Cullen Trust for the Performing Arts, the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance, and by supporters like you.
