"A tiny gem of a holiday story"

It’s storytime! Curl up and enjoy this nostalgic Christmastime classic. Truman Capote’s timeless short story is read by acclaimed Houston thespian David Rainey and enhanced with beautiful holiday music from a Mercury string quartet - beamed direct to your living room.

This touching autobiographical recollection of his young life in rural Alabama has warmed hearts since 1956 with its vivid illustrations of friendship and holiday joy. It’s a moving portrait of an unusual but enduring friendship between two innocent souls, one young and one old, through the beloved holiday rituals they share and the warmth that sustains even after loneliness and loss. The School Library Journal calls it, "A tiny gem of a holiday story."

This performance is made possible with permission of The Truman Capote Literary Trust and with support from the Houston Endowment, the Brown Foundation, the Cullen Trust for the Performing Arts, and the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.

David Rainey’s appearance has been arranged through an agreement with Actor’s Equity Association.

Live streaming of this performance is produced by Bend Productions, Inc.
